When the North Wales Agricultural Show faced difficulties in the 1990s, he offered land at Hendre Farm, Caernarfon, as a permanent base for the event.

The first two years were rent free and that generosity has been rewarded with rising attendances and record exhibitor entries.

Mr Williams, 80, of the Seiont Stud, said: ' I've being going to the show since I was old enough to walk, so that's well over 60 years.

'It was held at the Faenol and various sites but it needed a permanent home. I was pleased to do what I could to help.

'We had a fantastic show this year. Our only disappointment was the lack of interest from farmers, though cattle numbers were up this year
