ALBUM OF THE WEEK.

Byline: Paul Cole ;Jack Daniels

DROPKICK MURPHYS Going Out In Style (Cooking Vinyl) IMAGINE The Pogues and Green Day being double-booked at the studio. And then Bruce Springsteen drops in with his Seeger session band.

Yes, Stateside rabble rousers Dropkick Murphy are back, and this time they've brought their mates. Springsteen, no less, hollers out the traditional Peg O' My Heart.

NOFX's Fat Mike and The Living End's Chris Cheney also join the party, on the defiant title track.

The band's blend of punk and Irish tradition is a Murphys special brew. Opener Hang 'Em High somehow marries a ceilidh with AC/DC power chords. So, too, does the runaway Sunday Hardcore Matinee. The story of fictional character Cornelius Larkin runs through the album, and a book by Michael MacDonald will follow.

But for now just crank up the volume and play Deeds Not Words, a barnstormer which opens with keening bagpipes before breaking in to squealing rock and roll guitar. PC
