Plots fertilized with Milorganite and Earthgro S had significantly higher lance population densities when compared with plots fertilized with SCU, Sustane, Ringer LR, Com-Pro, Scotts ANTB, and
unfertilized plots.
The panel also approved the use of such fertilized eggs when only the wife is sterile, and it is difficult to locate
unfertilized eggs.
However, it banned implanting human embryos,
unfertilized eggs and cells from dead fetuses into animal embryos for the time being.
In the
unfertilized treatment, however, sorghum 95 growth was totally inhibited by only 5 cm (2 in) topsoil loss.
Three received high N addition (17 [g.m.sup.2].[yr.sup.-1] of ammonium nitrate), three received intermediate fertilization (8 [g.m.sup.-2][yr.sup.-1] of ammonium nitrate), and four were left
unfertilized as controls.
The third egg, which was found
unfertilized, has been frozen for preservation.
The birth of Tetra, a rhesus macaque, at the Oregon Regional Primate Research Center in Beaverton was produced by splitting a very early embryo into four pieces--unlike Dolly the sheep, which was cloned by taking the nucleus out of an adult cell and using it to reprogram an
unfertilized egg.
What made Dolly unique was that her production involved a process described as "somatic cell nuclear transfer." That is, the transfer of the nucleus of a somatic cell (to be distinguished from germ cells, a cell other than eggs or sperm) into an
unfertilized egg cell.
She is a clone, the petri-dish concoction of a group of veterinary researchers who transferred the nucleus of a mammary cell from Dolly's "mother" into an enucleated sheep egg, that is, an
unfertilized egg from which the natural nucleus had been microsurgically removed, then nurtured, implanted, and finally birthed the results.
In the sand lizard (Lacerta agilis),
unfertilized eggs are easily identified, and we exploit this phenomenon to estimate the frequency of male sterility in a natural population, and look for increased fertility with increased number of female matings and partners.
The recipe is quite simple: First, take a cell from a sheep and keep it in a tissue while removing the DNA-containing nucleus from an
unfertilized sheep's egg.

unfertilized eggs (parthenogenesis) - without transfer to a uterus or fallopian tube - for example, to study embryo development
