I was prepared to be persuasive, touching, and
hortatory, admonitory and expostulating, if need be vituperative even, indignant and sarcastic; but what the devil does a mentor do when the sinner makes no bones about confessing his sin?
Many of the supposed threats to US sovereignty that the Trump administration has cited have been either illusory -- such as a
hortatory compact on migration the US pulled out of last year -- or could be easily countered, such as a possible investigation by the International Criminal Court into US actions in Afghanistan.
The last chapter reminds one of the Latin sense of the "
hortatory subjunctive"--reiterating what one might take as the major theme of this Guide-, Cahn urges his colleagues to take "Teaching Philosophy Seriously." One of the best pieces of practical advice this reviewer ever received was from the former director of the Teaching Center at Northwestern University; his recommendation was to develop a course syllabus in a manner similar to developing an outline for a scholarly philosophy paper.

hortatory or motivational texts (mostly Deuteronomy chapters 4, 6-11, 2931).

In 2002 China and the ASEAN governments did sign a Document on Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea, or DOC But its
