Iran did not follow up the establishment its
heavy-water reactor at Arak, and all natural uranium granules have been remained at stores under the agency's monitoring, it pointed out.
DUBAI (Reuters) -- Six world powers will help Iran redesign its Arak
heavy-water reactor so that it cannot produce weapons-grade plutonium, according to a document released by the state news agency IRNA Saturday.
An Iranian diplomat later said China may get a significant share in a consortium on the reconstruction of the
heavy-water reactor in Iran's Arak, the Russian outlet said.
Prior to the deal, it was repeatedly stated over the years that Iran's key facilities of Fordow, an underground uranium enrichment plant; and Arak, a
heavy-water reactor suitable for plutonium production, would have to be shut down.
TAHRAN (CyHAN)- Experts from the UN nuclear watchdog have started inspections at Iran's
heavy-water reactor under construction at Arak, the ISNA news agency reported Sunday.
The agreement will also define Iran's control over developing a
heavy-water reactor at Arak to produce plutonium, and an extensive and intrusive inspection by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Netanyahu has said the deal would prematurely ease sanctions against Iran without getting it to halt uranium enrichment or stop work on the
heavy-water reactor.
The US and its allies have expressed concerns Iran could reprocess spent fuel from the
heavy-water reactor into plutonium for building a nuclear warhead.
Aghazadeh said Iran has also made "good progress" in constructing a 40 Megawatt
heavy-water reactor near Arak in central Iran.
UN nuclear inspectors who were banned earlier this year by Iran from visiting a
heavy-water reactor will now be allowed to inspect it before the end of July, says the International Atomic Energy Agency.
Also in the letter, the intergovernmental body monitoring nuclear efforts around the world, also expressed concern that Iran may be moving ahead with work on its
heavy-water reactor without submitting to inspections and other verification measures, as it had agreed to.
