The presence of a PFO to provide arterialization of silent bubbles has been considered to be a part of an incomplete "undeserved DCS" puzzle following a safe dive profile or arterial
gas embolism without pulmonary barotrauma.

Gas embolism," The New England Journal of Medicine, vol.
The term
gas embolism (GE) indicates an array of clinical conditions determined by the entry of gases like air, oxygen ([O.sub.2]), carbon dioxide (C[O.sub.2]), or nitrogen (N), and so on, into the bloodstream driven by the pressure gradient existing between the atmosphere and the venous system [1].
Venous or arterial
gas embolism may cause hyperemia and ischemia in end organ destinations which is devastating in coronary occlusion or in the cerebral vasculature [2].
Attention should be paid to it even in laparoscopic hepatectomy because
gas embolism by carbon dioxide entering through the hepatic vein is problematic, but carbon dioxide embolism as an intraoperative accident has been reported to be rare in Western countries [11].
Pressure-Related Injury (Barotrauma): Arterial
Gas Embolism and Decompression Sickness
Gas is then distributed systemically, causing arterial
gas embolism [12,13].
The global hyperbaric oxygen therapy devices market segmentation is based on product types (monoplace HBOT devices, multiplace HBOT devices, topical HBOT devices), and its applications (air or
gas embolism, decompression sickness, infection treatment, wound healing, etc.).
Of 37 conversions to open procedure in the NS group ( n = 294), 25 were because of severe adhesions, six because of bleeding, four because of inadequate margins, and two because of severe
gas embolism. The rate of intraoperative transfusion was identical between the two groups (14.3% vs.

gas embolism during laparoscopic surgery for colorectal cancer and liver metastasis: a case report," Korean Journal of Anesthesiology, vol.
Direct insertion of the trocar has been associated with fewer insufflation-related complications, such as
gas embolism and to be a faster technique than the Veress needle technique.
