This standardised regimen consists of a 4-6 months' intensive phase with kanamycin, moxifloxacin, prothionamide, clofazimine, PZA, high-dose INH and ethambutol.

Clofazimine also caused intractable nausea and vomiting upon initiation in this patient and was discontinued after 1 month.

Multibacillary disease was treated with rifampicin 600 mg once a month (supervised), dapsone 100 mg daily (self-administered) and clofazimine 300 mg once a month (supervised), and 50 mg daily (self-administered) for a total duration of 12 months, which has to be completed within 18 months.

To avoid cross-resistance in Vietnam, patients who have a history of taking clofazimine, are not eligible for Bedaquiline.

The child is diagnosed as a case of multibacillary child Hansen's and was treated with multidrug therapy, consisting of monthly doses of rifampicin 450 mg and clofazimine 200 mg, plus daily doses of dapsone 50 mg, and clofazimine 50 mg.

Drug susceptibility testing by 7H11 agar proportion at the National Jewish Health Mycobacteriology Laboratory (Denver, Colorado) confirmed resistance to HRZE, streptomycin, kanamycin, amikacin, capreomycin, ethionamide, and ciprofloxacin/ofloxacin, and reported susceptibility to cycloserine, para-aminosalicyclic acid (PAS), linezolid, clofazimine, and bedaquiline.

(14) Disabilities can be prevented by early diagnosis and multiple drug therapy (MDT) which consists of dapsone, rifampicin, and clofazimine. (8,13)

Drugs included in treatment regimen: injectable drug (amikacin, capreomycin, streptomycin), quinolones (ofloxacin, levofloxacin, moxifloxacin), pyrazinamide, and clofazimine.

Every day dose of Rifampicin 450 mg and Dapsone 100 mg and Clofazimine 100 mg for recommended period of time was given.

WHO has introduced multidrug therapy for the treatment involving Rifampicin, Dapsone and Clofazimine. New drugs that are approved for treatment are Quinolones like Pefloxacin and Ofloxacin, Minocyclin and Clarithromycin.

After routine pretherapeutic laboratory examinations that proved to be normal, antileprosy treatment (rifampicin 600 mg/day, dapsone 100 mg/day, and clofazimine 100 mg/day) was prescribed and was generally well tolerated, resulting in good clinical progress.
