In a report to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the Philippine Iron and Steel Institute (Pisi) claimed substandard rebars are being sold in several hardware stores in Benguet, Mountain Province and Ifugao.
A group of steel industry leaders urged the Department of Industry (DTI) to file criminal charges against hardware store owners and local manufacturers found to be selling or producing substandard reinforcing steel bars (rebars), in light of a construction boom ushered in by the government's 'Build, Build, Build' initiative.
In many studies the impressed current technique has been used to study the mechanical behaviour of corroded concrete structures [40], bond behaviour of corroded rebars [41], structural behaviour of corroded structural concrete elements [42, 43], and the performance of concrete structures [44].
For the tests, two sets of RC beams were fabricated using the concrete mix of Table 1 reinforced with the rebars of Table 2 as stirrups and tensile reinforcement.

"Increasing demand for non-corrosive and high strength materials breaches to drive the FRP rebars market"
KAHyRE (CyHAN)- Egypt's ministry of industry and foreign trade on Thursday announced that protective tariffs on imported steel rebars would temporarily be applied at a rate of 6.8 per cent at a minimum of LE299 per ton for roughly seven months, Al Ahram online reported.
Furthermore, Turkish producers are offering June shipment rebars to Yemen at $720-725/mt CFR on theoretical weight basis, with an increase of $30/mt over last week.
"Strong demand for steel rebars driven by steady construction activity will guarantee local producers continue to operate at full capacity," the firm said.
