Dos de las asociaciones presentaron una alta dominancia de Pino (dominado por Pino y por Pino-Encino) a altitudes menores (1 384 a 1 430 msnm) y la tercera de las asociaciones son bosques dominados por encino y otras especies, entre ellas Clethra vicentina (Encino-Otras especies), generalmente ubicadas a mayor elevacion (1 460 a 1 500 msnm).
Se desarrolla tambien en bosques de Pinus patula y en bosques de Pinus greggii, en el segundo caso combinado con elementos del bosque mesofilo de montana, como Juglans, Clethra, Cupressus lusitanica, Ilex discolor, Morella cerifera y Brahea moorei.
