Zara Larsson sparked some controversy online earlier this week after tweeting that she wasn't a fan of the popular Netflix series 13 Reasons Why. It all started when Zara put out a series of now-deleted tweets, writing: "13 Reasons Why is mehh, don't @ me." A few moments later, she elaborated, explaining: "In my opinion, it romanticizes a revenge suicide and it doesn't bring up mental illness or depression at all. I do understand the message, the show is just not my cup of tea. Too unrealistic for me. But that's just me." (Incidentally, 13 Reasons Why's author has explained that the reason why they chose to show the graphic scene of Hannah's death by suicide was so it wouldn't be glamorized or romanticized in any way, but mental health professionals are still concerned by the way the show addresses some of its more triggering themes.)

However everyone is entitled to their own opinion and reaction, and Zara is certainly entitled to hers. But immediately after she put out those tweets, she began to receive angry messages from fans.

The backlash seemed to prompt Zara to delete her tweets, but not before she put out one last (now-deleted) message explaining that she loves Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift. "I don't know where y'all getting everything from, it's stupid," she added.

After Zara started deleting her tweets, her fans jumped in to offer support. Some pointed out that 13 Reasons Why reminds us not to bully one another...and yet Zara was facing a lot of cyberbullying for her comments. Others just encouraged her to take a step back from social media. While having a powerful reaction to a show like 13 Reasons Why is understandable, it's also important to remember that everyone reacts differently. And it's never OK to bully someone just because they have a different opinion than you do, even if they are a celebrity.
