When sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson steps onto the track, she knows how to put on a show. The 21-year-old won the women’s 100-meter final at the U.S. Olympic Track and Field trials on June 19. She flew past her competitors in 10.86 seconds and looked iconic while doing it. Her fierce orange hair flowing at high speed made her look like she was on fire. It was a moment and she knows it. “I just want the world to know I'm that girl,” she told NBC during the Olympic trials.
There’s no doubt that all eyes were on Sha’Carri for her superwoman speed, but the Texas native is quickly becoming known for her bold style as much as her winning titles. Sha’Carri’s aesthetic is all about unapologetic self-expression. From her ever-changing bright hair to her voluminous lashes, there is no such thing as too much glam. When it comes to nails, Sha’Carri keeps things long and luxurious. Saturday’s set of choice was victory-inspired featuring a color gradient and gold star embellishments and rhinestones.
Part of her charismatic flair, Sha’Carri’s penchant for long nails means she’s often compared to legendary sprinter Florence Griffith Joyner, commonly known as Flo-Jo. She always served looks on the track and, much like Sha’Carri Richardson, loved her long acrylics. “Flo-Jo came to the track and knew she was going to dominate,” Sha’Carri told the Associated Press on June 17. “The way she did that was graceful. I always liked that. If the amazing Flo-Jo had long nails, there was no excuse why I couldn’t have long nails,” she added.
In 1988, Flo-Jo set the women’s world record for the 100m and 200m sprint and she still holds the crown as the fastest woman of all time. 33 years since Flo-Jo left her mark on athletic history, her legacy lives on in rising stars like Sha’Carri. Now that she has secured her spot on the U.S. Olympic team (and our nail inspo Pinterest boards!), we’re excited to see what looks she’ll serve in Tokyo this summer while killing it on the track.
