Michelle Carter became the first U.S. woman to ever win a gold in the Olympic shot put competition. She took home the event with a 20.63 throw, upsetting the New Zealand favorite, Valerie Adams.
"I knew I had more in the tank," Michelle said after the event (via NPR). "And to be able to go out there and put the pieces together and pull it out, I'm just really excited."
