    What Is 5S

    A system for organising and standardising an optimum workplace


    A prerequisite to the implementation of all other improvements

    Implementing 5S will :- Teach everyone the basic principles of improvement


    - Provide a starting place for eliminating all waste
    - Remove many obstacles to improvement (with very little cost)
    - Make everyone responsible for their workplace
    - Create a work place to be proud of

    5S consists of 5 activities

    What Is 5S
    A working environment that is:-

    Safe
    Clean
    Organised
    Comfortable
    With standardised procedures and routines
    An environment sensitive to anomalies

    5S Stands For...
    Seri (clear out)
    SORTING (clearing out)
    Seiton (set in order)
    STRAIGHTEN (arranging what is left)
    Seiso (clean and check)
    SHINE (really thorough cleaning)
    Seiketsu (standardise)
    STANDARDISE (recording & maintaining the first 3Ss)
    Shitsuke (personal habits)
    SUSTAIN (check & review mechanism)

    Every member in the company must

    Without setting Standards and Sustain them, the first 3Ss will not
    last.
    Make the Standard and responsibilities highly visual.
    Everyone must follow the agreed upon standards.
    Develop Discipline build the right behaviors, develop good habits,
    or conditions will revert.

    It gives everyone a chance to provide creative input on how their


    workplace is organized.

    Places high value on environmental, health and safety.
