INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES
Write your name in the spaces provided on the answer sheet/answer booklet.
Answer 𝒂𝒍𝒍 questions.
If a numerical answer cannot be given exactly, and the accuracy required is not specified in the
question, then in the case of an angle it should be given correct to the nearest degree, and in other
cases it should be given to 2 significant figures.
INFORMATION TO CANDIDATES
The number of marks is given in brackets [ ] at the end of each question or part of question.
You are reminded of the need for clear presentation in your answers.

The variables 𝑥 and 𝑦 satisfy the equation 𝑦 = 𝐴 × 𝐵 𝐼𝑛𝑥 , where A and B are
constants. The graph of 𝐼𝑛𝑦 against 𝐼𝑛𝑥 is a straight line passing through the points
(2.2; 4.908) and (5.9; 11.008) as shown in the diagram. Find the value of A and B
correct to 2 significant figures. [5]

i) Find the single transformation that would transform the first shape to the
third shape directly. [2]
ii) If the first shape has an area of 9 𝑠𝑞𝑢𝑎𝑟𝑒 𝑢𝑛𝑖𝑡𝑠, find the area of the second
and third shape. [3]
(b) Prove by induction that ∑𝑛𝑟=1(1 + 𝑟)2𝑟 = 𝑛2𝑛+1 for all 𝑛 ∈ ℤ+ , where ℤ+ is the set of

a rate of 2.5cm2 /s. Find the rate at which the radius is changing when the area of the
stain is 16𝜋cm2 . [5]
(c) A vacuum flask (for keeping drinks hot) is modelled as a closed cylinder in which the
internal radius is 𝑟 cm and the internal height is ℎ cm. The volume of the flask is 1000
