2-Methoxy-4-vinylphenol is understood to function as an antimicrobial agent by causing disturbances in the bacterial cell membrane. It is hypothesized that 2-Methoxy-4-vinylphenol attaches to the cell membrane, leading to its destabilization and subsequent disintegration. As a consequence, the cell undergoes cell death as intracellular components are released. Moreover, it is believed that 2-Methoxy-4-vinylphenol hinders the growth of bacteria by disrupting the metabolism of vital nutrients.
