I was perusing Amazon.com and came across a 1TB USB drive for only $22 via Amazon Prime. Decided I'd try it out to see what these devices are all about.
Drive came in a clear style case with 2 free gifts, a keychain stylus (soft-tip for use on touch screens) and a pink keychain holder for the USB drive. Imagine my surprise when I plugged in the USB drive and instead of reporting 1TB it came back as 2TB! I ran the FakeFlashTest tool on the drive and it failed fairly quickly. After the failed test the drive partition was corrupt, and I had to unplug it and replug to get it to respond again. I opened the diskpart command line tool, select disk, clean, create partition, and it came back as a 1.90TiB drive again. I did a quick format and ran the slow test. The slow test came back with the drive failing after 2GB so in reality the flash only has 2GB of actual storage or 0.002TB of the promised amount. Moral, if it seems too good to be true don't trust it even if it is an Amazon Prime listing, haha. I returned the thing to get my $21 bucks back. Update: April 2022 - I purchased another 2TB USB from Amazon for $32. Same fake scam device still a large problem on Amazon.com. Photos |
