Sony Pictures and Walt Disney Studios have failed to come to terms over the future of Spider-Man movies, Deadline reports, leaving Marvel Studios and producer Kevin Feige out of Sony’s upcoming Spider-Man slate.

This means that we won’t be seeing any more Avengers or other Marvel Cinematic Universe characters in a Spider-Man movie — and that it’s likely Peter Parker won’t be seen in any future MCU installments for the foreseeable future.
The dispute came down to money, according to Deadline.
“Disney asked that future Spider-Man films be a 50/50 co-financing arrangement between the studios, and there were discussions that this might extend to other films in the Spider-Man universe. Sony turned that offer down flat [...] Sony proposed keeping the arrangement going under the current terms where Marvel receives in the range of 5% of first dollar gross, sources said. Disney refused.”

Sony and Disney’s original agreement was made when Sony’s Amazing Spider-Man franchise was on its second struggling installment in the box office, and the studio faced the prospect of producing another lackluster movie or allowing the film license to revert back to the juggernaut of Marvel Studios. Now, after two Feige-produced Spider-Man hits — including one that is the highest-grossing movie Sony Pictures has ever made — and three appearances from the wall-crawler in the MCU, Sony may feel that it can steer the Spider-Man film franchise into the future all on its own again.
The studio has an extensive lineup of Spider-Man-related films in some stage of production, including Venom 2 (directed by Andy Serkis) and a sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, plus movies featuring Black Cat, Silver Sable, Morbius the Living Vampire (starring Jared Leto), Kraven the Hunter, Silk, Jackpot, and Nightwatch.
