A Plymouth man was left in shock after finding a strand of HAIR on a pizza he ordered from Domino’s on Mutley Plain.

He claimed that upon contacting Domino’s they ‘seemed to not care and only offered a partial refund’ for the food he'd ordered on Sunday night.

The man, who wished to remain anonymous, said there was ‘zero chance’ of the hair coming from him as it was 'baked' into the cheese.

As well as the service he received, he was also concerned about possible contamination from the human hair.

Domino's say they promptly offered the customer a refund on his pizza and have reviewed CCTV in store to 'ensure food safety procedures were in place'.

The company said it was 'satisfied' with the resolution offered to the diner.

Yet the disgruntled pizza fan said: “Me and my girlfriend were eating it, she’s the one who bit into the slice with hair baked into the cheese.

“By that time, there were only two slices left, so we stopped eating right then because we were grossed out.

“We immediately called the manager at that location who initially stated that they were too busy to do anything and couldn’t help us.

“I said that wasn’t satisfactory, so she then offered me a free medium pizza on my next order and I said no, I want a refund for this.

“She eventually decided she was going to drive over to collect the pizza and examine the hair.

“After an hour, I think around 2am, she called me and said they would issue a partial refund.”

The man again asked for a full refund and said he had been inconvenienced, had his evening ruined and told the store’s manager it was unacceptable due to Covid-19.

He was told to contact the franchise owner, and did via the customer service section of the Domino’s website

The man said he was told the franchise owner was happy with the resolution provided, which was a £13 refund for an order of £18.

He continued: “It doesn’t seem like they’re taking this seriously enough. In a way it almost feels like they think we’re lying about it.

“At first they were reluctant to do anything in regards to it.

“One email said they had reviewed their CCTV and all their staff were wearing the appropriate gear and their food hygiene rating is perfect.

“They disregarded it. In a typical situation it would just be a hair in your food, you’re probably going to be fine.

“In this situation a hair in your food could contaminate the entire pizza.”

Domino's statement in full

In a statement, Rachel Townsend, a spokeswoman for Domino's, said: "As a store rated five stars by the Food Standards Agency we take food hygiene, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, extremely seriously.

"Upon hearing this complaint we immediately and without inspection, offered the customer a refund on his pizza.

"Following the complaint, we reviewed CCTV of the store to ensure food safety procedures were in place and were satisfied with the resolution offered to the customer.”
