What is lipohydroxy acid?

LHA stands for lipohydroxy acid, which is a 4th generation acid to enter the aesthetics industry. LHA falls under the beta-hydroxy (BHA) acid category and is a salicylic acid derivative. It features anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal properties.

LHA is considered to be comedolytic (an ingredient capable of preventing and treating comedones) and helps prevent blemishes from forming when oil becomes trapped in pores. It can directly target sebum-rich sebaceous glands, further preventing acne and blemishes.

This treatment helps reduce dead skin cell build, thus allowing more optimal penetration compared to some other skin products. In your LHA Facial with PCM, we perform the LHA Facial with our photo-biomodulating LED light – also known as Healite II – combined also with a custom hydrating mask suited to your skin type.

Compared to salicylic acid (another beta-hydroxy acid), LHA has a larger molecular size and a fatty acid structure, thereby enabling LHA to penetrate the skin at a slower rate when compared to salicylic acid. LHA is gentler and more well-tolerated, than some other hydroxy acids.

LHA is a great alternative for those who cannot tolerate other chemical exfoliants or those wanting something with zero to minimal downtime.

What are the benefits of our LHA peel?

  • Reduce acne and congestion
  • Cleans and improves appearance of pores
  • Improves acne scarring and marks
  • Hyperpigmentation and sun damage reduced
  • Improve skin texture and tone

What else is in this peel other than lipohydroxy acid?

P-Sol ™

Obtained from natural oils, such as olive and coconuts, P-Sol helps to reduce irritating side effects of chemical exfoliants and it optimises formula efficacy through a patented production technology. P-Sol helps to induce fibroblast activation, protects skin surface, and generates a barrier of proteins and lipids. It can also assist with collagen and fibrous tissue remodelling.

Lipids

Lipids are fatty compounds that support skin cell structure and integrity. They form part of the skin barrier that reduces sensitivity and irritation. When combined with comedolytic or exfoliating ingredients such as LHA, they help reduce irritancy and downtime.

What to expect from the treatment?

Step 1: Micro bubble cleanse

A pH balanced peel is used to thoroughly cleansed the skin, removing impurities, dirt and makeup efficiently without stripping the skin.

Step 2: LHA Basic Peel

The first peel is applied using a unique brush method, increasing circulation and lymphatic flow at the same time. It is left on the skin for 5-10 minutes, before being removed with a wet, cold cloth.

Step 3: LHA Ultra Peel

The second peel is applied using an upwards motion and is double the strength of the basic peel. It is left on the skin for 5-10 minutes, before being removed with a wet, cold cloth.

Step 4: Healite

Our Healite II LED light therapy is a stimulating light that increases cellular energy. It helps the skin function optimally and is not only soothing for the skin, but it relaxes the mind too! Some warmth is felt during the Healite session of approximately 15 minutes. It feels like lying under the sun but without the harmful UV effects!

Step 5: Custom gel mask

A custom sheet mask is applied that is geared towards hydrating, nourishing and calming the skin. This last piece of the puzzle is as essential as every other step in this facial. We’ve now peeled, filled and exfoliated the skin – we now want to allow the skin to take in all that hydration to finish off the process.
