Flir Systems buys security-system supplier for $20 million

Flir Systems Inc., the Wilsonville-based maker of heat-sensing devices, said today it had purchased the stock of Directed Perception Inc., for $20 million. Directed, based in Burlingame, Calif., makes bases for security cameras and motion-detection monitors that pan and tilt.

Directed will be renamed Flir Motion Control Systems and operate under Flir's Commercial Systems division, a company press release said. Flir expects the transaction will be neutral to 2010 net earnings and accretive thereafter.

Earlier this month,

Flir sold portable printer developer Extech Data Systems, a subsidiary of its 2007 purchase of Extech Instruments, for an undisclosed amount.

Flir announced Directed's purchase today after trading ended on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange where shares closed up 29 cents to $32.53. The price was unchanged in after-hours trading.
