Martin Beckmann went missing-in-action in World War II, last being seen in 1944. He travelled to the 1906 Games at his own expenses, where he took part over 100 and 400 metres. He was also a good football player (1904 champion of the Association of Central German Football Clubs). In 1913 he was awarded the “Deutsches Sportabzeichen” (German Sports Badge), as one of the first German athletes. He was 1905 German Champion over 400 m.
