Biography

Craig Virgin competed in two Olympics, and made the 1980 Olympic team, but he is best known for his cross-country exploits. He competed eight times for the US at the International Cross-Country in won the race in 1980-81, the first American to win that race. He won four national championships in cross-country and three TAC title on the track in the 10K – 1978-79 and 1982. He was runner-up in the NCAA 10K in 1976-77, competing for Illinois. He also won the Peachtree Road Race from 1979-81.

Personal Bests: 1500 – 3:45.7 (1979); Mile – 4:02.8 (1976); 2 miles – 8:22.0 (1978); 5000 – 13:19.1 (1980); 10000 – 27:29.16 (1980); Mar – 2-10:26 (1981); 3000S – 8:52.1 (1978).
