Biography
After the 1976 Olympics, where she won a gold with the GDR 4×100 relay, Marlies Oelsner married footballer Ulrich Göhr, and started in 1980 and 1988 as Marlies Göhr, not competing in 1984, because of the Soviet-led boycott. In 1980 she lost the final over 100 metres only by a controversial finish line judges’ decision about 100 meters. After German reunification Oelsner-Göhr was suspected of systematic doping by Brigitte Berendonk and the documents released by the Military Medical Academy in Bad Saarow, with suspicions that Göhr was given high doses of oral turinabol in 1983 and 1984.
Beside her two Olympic gold medals she was twice World Champion and five times a European Champion. She also won four titles at the World Cup and 12 at the European Cup, and earned 10 national titles in the 100, two in the 200, and nine in the short relay. During her career she set 28 world records. She later studied psychology and worked in this job.
