Biography

Count Félix Goblet D’Alviella participated in the 1920 and 1924 Olympic Games, winning a silver medal in the team épée event at Antwerpen. He was a lawyer by profession and editor of the Revue de Belgique. He also wrote several books on forestry. After World War II Count Goblet d’Alviella became President of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) from 1946-56. His father, Eugène Félicien Albert was a liberal senator and rector of the Universite Libre de Bruxelles, while his son Jean became mayor of Court-Saint-Étienne. Félix, Count Goblet d’Alviella was also active as a municipal councilor.
