49ers depth chart lists C.J. Beathard as No. 1 QB ... for now

The unofficial depth chart has arrived. Plenty can (and probably will) change.

If you are looking for hints that Jimmy Garoppolo will start in Week 13, the San Francisco 49ers’ unofficial depth chart does not provide an answer.

The team released their unofficial depth chart on Tuesday as they continue preparations for the Chicago Bears. It is created by the football communications staff, with only the potential for the coaches to chime in. There are sometimes obvious issues with it. For example, back when Jimmie Ward was playing cornerback, the unofficial depth chart listed him as a safety.

In this week’s depth chart, C.J. Beathard is listed as the starting quarterback, and Jimmy Garoppolo is listed as the backup quarterback. Kyle Shanahan has said he will announce his starter on Wednesday at his regular press conference. He might have informed the PR staff already, but my guess is that if that was the case, it is not necessarily reflected in this depth chart. I think we end up seeing

This also does not yet factor in the IR moves for Erik Magnuson and Raheem Mostert. The team will likely make those moves later today or on Wednesday before practice.
