ST. JOSEPH — A school bus from St. Joseph Grade School was rear-ended Wednesday afternoon while dropping off students on U.S. 150 west of town.
Superintendent Todd Pence said the bus only had eight students on it when it was hit from behind by a Volkswagen Beetle.
"The majority of the students had already been dropped off," Pence said.
The bus was stopped on U.S. 150 west of County Road 1900 E near Mayview to let some of students off when it was hit from behind, Pence said.Pence said students on the bus said they barely felt the impact and said it sounded like someone had just dropped a book in the back of the bus.
The car suffered far more damage, Pence said.
Pence said be thinks the driver of the car wasn't paying attention and didn't realize the bus had stopped.
"Luckily, no students were injured," Pence said.
Pence said parents of students on the bus were contacted, and some opted to come pick up their children. Pence said he took one student home and others were placed on another bus.
