Margot Robbie lavished praise on Cillian Murphy and Peaky Blinders in a new interview between the pair for Variety's Actors on Actors.
Peaky Blinders aired for six series on the BBC and tells the story of the Shelby family, led by Tommy Shelby. It is set in the aftermath of the First World War as the Shelby family attempt to maintain their criminal empire on the rough streets of Birmingham.
The show's creator, Steven Knight, has talked about a movie for a few years now, and after the production was confirmed, the release year of 2024 was set. However, updates have been few and far between recently, which might upset Robbie...
"In my opinion, there are two kinds of people in this world. There are the people who are obsessed with Peaky Blinders, and then there are the people who haven’t seen Peaky Blinders," she told the Irishman.
"I obviously sit in the first category, so can we please talk about Tommy fucking Shelby for just one minute? I mean, that was years and years of your life.
"Is there going to be a spinoff movie?"
Murphy replied: "I mean, I’m open to the idea. I’ve always thought that if there’s more story to tell …"
Robbie continued: "Please do it. Please! Obviously, I’ve now revealed that I am a big fan of yours, not just Peaky Blinders. I also love your sleep story on the Calm app."
Will there be a Peaky Blinders series 7?
The sixth series of Peaky Blinders was believed to be the show's last and Murphy himself has said as much.
However, Knight thinks we could see more series on the BBC if there is an appetite - even if he doesn't make it himself.
“I think after the film, we will look at ,” he told the BBC. “It would be me sort of launching possible new stories into the ’50s, and then I would hand over the baton of writing and creating the thing to other people.
"If there is an appetite for the world then it will continue."
