Red Wings reassign goaltender Petr Mrazek to Grand Rapids and recall Jared Coreau

Petr Mrazek makes one of his 14 saves Saturday, on Edmonton's Sam Gagner, in a 5-0 win.

DETROIT -- The Detroit Red Wings today assigned goaltender Petr Mrazek to the Grand Rapids Griffins and recalled goaltender Jared Coreau from their AHL affiliate.

This enables Mrazek to start for the Griffins on Wednesday, when they host Rockford at Van Andel Arena.

Mrazek, 21, made 14 saves for his first NHL shutout, 5-0 over the Edmonton Oilers Saturday, in his first appearance with the Red Wings this season. Mrazek is 2-2-1, with a 3.14 goals-against average and .891 save percentage for Grand Rapids.

The Red Wings expect to have backup goalie Jonas Gustavsson (stiff neck) ready soon, perhaps in time to back-up Jimmy Howard Thursday against Dallas or Saturday vs. Tampa Bay. Gustavsson has been practicing but isn't eligible to come off of short-term injured reserve until Wednesday.

Coreau, 22, is 0-1, with a 3.82 GAA and .846 save percentage for the Griffins.
