They are the greatest musicians of the new century. Gathered together by Q magazine, this multi-talented line-up is a who’s who of pop and rock royalty.

But these stars, ranging from Bono and Sir Paul McCartney to Lily Allen and Rhianna, were not all crammed into a studio for one big shoot.

The special Artists of the Century cover took more than a year of carefully planned photo sessions to produce. Each image was then digitally stitched together into one photo.

Q Editor Paul Rees said: “All of the 34 artists are there because they have significantly shaped or connected with our readers’ lives in the past 10 years. As such they represent a reflection of the breadth and diversity of Q’s musical world.

“It took us a year to put together the Artists of the Century issue but I think the end result makes all that time and effort more than worth it.”

Yet there are some notable big-name absences from the list, including Liam Gallagher and Radiohead’s Thom Yorke.

Paul said: “We had a long discussion about who is the list. We wanted Take That and Jay Z but sadly we just couldn’t make it happen.”
