“Born in 1856, George Bernard Shaw is considered Ireland's most famous playwright. Although he left Ireland forever in 1876 to live in England, Shaw remained a very Irish author. The statue honoring Mr. Shaw stands right outside the National Gallery nearby to the Liffey River. Shaw wrote that he owed his education to the National Gallery, and upon his death left one-third of his wealth to the Museum.”

A statue of George Bernard Shaw, specifically the one outside the National Gallery of Ireland, appears as a landmark in the PC versions of Mario is Missing!. In the game, Koopa Troopas have stolen the statue's beard, forcing its information booth to close to the public. When Luigi visits Dublin, the home of the National Gallery of Ireland, he must retrieve the beard from one of the Koopa Troopas and return it to be placed back on the statue.
