Michael Molloy memorial bench unveiled in Woolton
Mum Frances says plaque will give friends and family somewhere to remember Michael
A memorial bench has been fitted in tribute to young Liverpool musician Michael Molloy killed in a coach crash returning from Bestival.
The bench at Camp Hill in Woolton was fitted in memory of Michael, 18, who died in a coach crash on his way back from Bestival in the Isle of Wight last year.
Friends and family visited the site on Saturday.
Michael’s mum Frances said the area was chosen because it was somewhere Michael went every day.
She said: “He would walk the dog there every day and he would play football there.
“There’s a youth club there as well where he would go so there are a lot of memories of him there.
“We wanted a place to go and remember him because we haven’t got a headstone for him yet.
“A lot of his friends have asked me for a place where they can go to think about him.
“It’s a beautiful place and we wanted a bench so people can go and sit there and remember Michael.”
The bench was fitted on Friday with a plaque reading: “Michael Molloy 1994-2012. Songwriter and musician. Beautiful son of Frances and Dave. Amazing brother of Joe and Liam. Adored grandson, cousin, nephew, friend.”
The last song recorded by Michael, Rise and Fall, made it to the top 40 when it was released by his family earlier this year.
The song was played at the opening of this year’s Bestival at the beginning of this month.
