Aisčių mater deum klausimu
LTStraipsnyje nagrinėjamas baltų mitologijai labai svarbus ankstyvas fragmentas iš I a. po Kr. Tai žinomasis Tacito liudijimas apie aisčių garbintą deivę, kurios tapatinimas su vėlesnių šaltinių minimomis baltų Žemės dievybėmis visada kėlė ir tebekelia daug problemų, o universaliai Dievų Gimdytojai prilystančios mitologinės figūros vėlesniuose šaltiniuose nesutinkama. Tad straipsnio tikslas - pamėginti išsiaiškinti, kokiame kontekste Tacitas įvedė mater deum figūrą ir kokios lietuvių mitologijos realijos iš vėlesnių šaltinių atitiktų tą menamą kontekstą, kuriame Tacitas rado atitikmenį aisčių deivei. Darbe pasitelkiamas lyginamosios religijotyros ir religinis istorinis metodai, kuriais tikimasi kiek praplėsti galimo kalbėjimo apie aisčių mater deum lauką. Baltų mitologijos tyrinėjimuose yra įsitvirtinusi versija, jog Tacitas aisčių mater deum laikė Kibelės analogu. Straipsnyje nesiekiama įrodyti aisčių deivės tapatumo su Kibele, tačiau mėginama suprasti kokios priežastys galėjo paakinti romėnų informatorių joje atpažinti tuo metu Romoje labai populiarios Kibelės bruožus.Reikšminiai žodžiai: Mitologija; Religija; Baltai; Dievai; Mythology; Religion; Balts; Gods.
ENThe article analyses a very important fragment of Baltic mythology from the 1st c. AD. There’s a well-known testimony by Tacitus about a goddess worshiped by the Balts, whose identification with the Baltic Earth goddesses mentioned in later sources has always aroused multiple problems. In later sources, a mythological figure equal to the universal Mater Deum does not occur. Thus, the aim of the article is to make an attempt to clarify in what context Tacitus introduced the figure of mater deum and what Lithuanian mythological realities from later sources could correspond to the imaginary context in which Tacitus found an equivalent of a Baltic goddess. The paper employs methods of comparative religious science and religious historical methods that are chosen in order to broaden the field of the possible exploration of the Baltic mater deum. A version has been fortified in the exploration of Baltic mythology that Tacitus regarded the Baltic mater deum as an analogue of the goddess Cybele. The article doesn’t seek to prove the identity of the Baltic goddess with Cybele, however an attempt is made to understand the reasons that could have induced the Roman informer to recognize the traits of Cybele, very popular at the time in Rome as the Baltic goddess.
