Living In A Box...
Police drama about two cops, one new and one about to retire, after a serial killer using the seven deadly sins as his MO.
Brad Pitt: Detective David Mills
Se7en obviously is a very complex and deep movie, while also being quite disturbing. Andrew Kevin Walker created one of the most original spec screenplays of all time, but it ... read more

" Seven (stylized as SE7EN) is a 1995 American neo-noir psychological crime thriller film directed by David Fincher and written by Andrew Kevin Walker. It stars Brad Pitt, Morgan Freeman, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kevin Spacey and John C. McGinley. The film tells the story of retiring and dispirited Detective William Somerset, who partners with Detective David Mills to hunt a serial killer who uses the seven deadly sins as his motives. The screenplay was influenced by the time Walker spent in New York"
“A retiring Detective and a young rookie are hunting down a serial killer, a killer with a dark MO, murdering his victims using the seven deadly sins. ”

As I watch this, it's coming up to its thirtieth anniversary, and it's as fresh now as it was back in 1995, it's an intensely macabre take, crimes that are infinitely macabre and depraved, and intensely twisted.
The combination of Freeman and Pitt is incredible, they work immensely well together, we have the fresh zest of Mills, and the unshakable, but battle weary Somerset. Paltrow and Spacey are excellent in support.
Two hours flashed past, there is no lull, no moment to switch off and boil the kettle, the intensity is immediate, the pacing designed to keep you glued.

"FORMAT: 35mm CONDITION: โ โ โ โ NOTES: Likely an American print, and really quite a clean one aside from a couple of missing frames, at least until the final two reels. One is noticeably more worn than the previous reels, while the other looks to have been taken from a different print altogether, bearing a stronger golden tint than the rest of the print. As Fincher would have wanted it, really. DATE: October 30th 2023 CINEMA: The Prince Charles Cinema LOCATION: West End"

"Plot: A serial killer orchestrating a grand scheme becomes the focus of two detectives at very different stages in life. An absolute masterpiece that, like Silence of the Lambs, becomes horror by proxy of its bleak and terrifying content. Beautifully written, shot, and cast, the film uses its production strengths to expound on its cynical (and, sadly, relatable) outlook with maximum effect. The film is a brutal (without ever being grotesque) portrait of a world rife with crushing lawlessness a"
