Clash of the Titans

Clash of the Titans is a swan song, not only for Ray Harryhausen’s career but for a type of romantic-adventure stories that are no longer made. While it doesn’t compare to its brethren like Jason and the Argonauts or The Thief of Bagdad, it is of a piece with those colorful epics filled with stolid heroes, beautiful princesses, enormous monsters, never-ending quests, and effects work that is a... read more

(Blu) Harryhausen had lot of reosurces here, it's an hommage from him (as coproducer) to his skills; but he ges no further than the wonderful "Jason" or even his "Sinbad". The character of Calybos, the punsishment in the sea are better than Medusa and the Kraken...Firt part is better....Olivier is better than the ladies

I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this flick but since I kept hearing some interesting things about it, I thought I might as well check it out. First of all, to be honest, the circumstances during which I watched this movie were not really ideal. Indeed, I saw it on the BBC without subtitles but, even worse, even though I started to watch it rather early at 19:30, for some reasons, I felt... read more

Perseus (Harry Hamlin), son of the Greek god Zeus (Laurence Olivier), grows up on a deserted island. His destiny is to marry Princess Andromeda (Judi Bowker), who will someday rule the city of Joppa. But as long as the satyr Calibos (Neil McCarthy) -- who uses a giant vulture to kidnap Andromeda's soul every night -- is alive, no one can marry her. Perseus travels to Joppa, where he must defeat Calibos and other mythological monsters to rescue Andromeda.

“I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this flick but since I kept hearing some interesting things about it, I thought I might as well check it out. First of all, to be honest, the circumstances during which I watched this movie were not really ideal. Indeed, I saw it on the BBC without subtitles but, even worse, even though I started to watch it rather early at 19:30, for some reasons, I felt exhausted and struggled not to fall asleep. Anyway, how was this movie after all? Well, its biggest asset (and probably its biggest issue) is that the damned thing was really all over the place. Indeed, if you were expecting a classic sword-and-sandal epic, well, you will probably get a big surprise here. Sure, you get some Greek mythology but, also, a lot of pretty girls, even a couple of nudes,” read more

Pros and Cons of Films: Vol. 1 (121 movies items)

"Pros: The effects by Ray Harrhausen. It’s a enjoyable, guilty pleasure film. The film score, by Lawrence Rosenthal. Cons: For some, actual mileage may very. Harry Hamlin, makes for a effective hero, but he is over acted By Laurence Olivier."

250 Of My Favorite Films From The 80's, y'all (250 movies items)

" When you look at all the destruction and chaos that Zues & Co. release down on our humble planet just outta petty jealousy and pride, it really reveals the truth behind the old saying, "The gods must be crazy".  While I'm not usually a big fan of movie remakes, for me, the original Clash, is an excellent example of a classic that would greatly benefit from today's special effects technology (which it did when it remade in 2010, although the story in that update didn't hold up s well "
