Ganes T.H. was born in Banten in 1935. Ganes became popular for his creation 'Si Buta dari Gua Hantu'. The adventure of Si Buta, which was published in 1968, was made into a movie in 1971. Ganes has been interested in painting since he was very young. He took part in a number of exhibitions in Jakarta and Bandung in 1953. Then he continued to study at Akademi Seni Rupa Indonesia/ ASRI (Indonesian Arts Academy) in Yogyakarta, but not for long. He went back to Jakarta to work as an illustrator; one of his clients was Warta Bhakti, a communist daily paper.

When the Indonesian Communist Party was banned, after the October Massacre in 1965, Ganes became worried and decided to produce only comic strips. He was also involved in the foundation of IKASTI. His other creations that were made into movies were 'Tuan Tanah Kedawung', 'Misteri di Borobudur', 'Tjisadane' and 'Beranak dalam Kubur'. But his creation 'Si Buta' received the most applause for its dynamic style and its strength in historical documentation. Ganes Th also achieved considerable popularity in film industry as story writer and wardrobe designer.
