Subject: First Government House was the first permanent centre of colonial admistration in Australia, the home and offices of the Governors of New South Wales from 1788-1845 and the official, social and administrative centre of the colony from 1788-1845.

Subject: First Government House took about a year to build. Governor Arthur Phillip laid the foundation stone in May 1788. As the first permanent building in the colony, it had two storeys and was made from bricks and stone.
