Fonda Lee
“I will practice humility: putting my beloved before myself, expecting no praise or reward, for now we are joined in all things.

I will practice compassion: giving gratitude for my beloved, suffering when they suffer, for now we are joined in all things.

I will practice courage: for protecting my beloved from harm, facing all fears from within or without, for now we are joined in all things.

I will practice goodness: offering freely of myself to my beloved, honoring and caring for each other in body and soul, for now we are joined in all things.

I make this pledge to you and you alone, under the eyes of the gods in Heaven, from this moment until the last one of my life.”
Fonda Lee, Jade City

Sarah Hogle
“The thing about a wedding is: you don’t remember the vows. You forget them the second after your mouth utters the sacred words, because your brain needs the room to catalog every detail of your partner’s face. All of my concentration is on him. Everything is wonderful. Every day is the same. Every day is like our wedding day.”
Sarah Hogle, You Deserve Each Other

Aristophanes
“The night I wedded her, I went to bed
smelling of fresh wine, fleeces, figs and great
affluence, and she on her side reeked of
lubricant, saffron seeds, tongue kisses, wealth,
gluttony and the Goddess of Sex.”
Aristophanes, The Clouds

“But the crown jewel was the columned Greek Revival mansion, which dated from the mid-1800s, along with the manicured boxwood gardens that would serve as the backdrop for the couple's ceremony.
Of course, everything was not only very traditional but also a standard to what one might imagine an over-the-top Southern wedding to be. As I said, "Steel Magnolias on steroids." The ceremony would take place outdoors in the garden, but large custom peach-and-white scalloped umbrellas were placed throughout the rows of bamboo folding chairs to shade the guests. Magnolia blossoms and vintage lace adorned the ends of the aisles.
White, trellis-covered bars flanked the entrance to the gardens where guests could select from a cucumber cooler or spiked sweet tea to keep cool during the thirty-minute nuptials. It was still considered spring, but like Dallas, Nashville could heat up early in the year, and we were glad to be prepared.
By the time we arrived the tent was well on its way to completion, and rental deliveries were rolling in. The reception structure was located past the gardens near the enormous whitewashed former stable, and inside the ceiling was draped in countless yards of peach fabric with crystal chandeliers hanging above every dining table. Custom napkins with embroidered magnolias on them complemented the centerpieces' peach garden roses, lush greenery, and dried cotton stems. Cedric's carpentry department created floor-to-ceiling lattice walls covered in faux greenery and white wisteria blooms, a dreamy backdrop for the band.”

“Let's no' make this langsome, MacTaggart. Lady Merritt is weary, and as you know, I'm no' one to stand on ceremony."
"'Tis a haisty affair, aye?" the sheriff observed, some of his good cheer fading as he looked around the room. "No flowers? No candles?"
"No, and also no ring," Keir informed him. "Let us say our pledge, give us the certificate, and we'll have done with it in time for supper."
MacTaggart clearly didn't appreciate the younger man's cavalier attitude. "You'll be having no signed paper until I make certain 'tis done legal," he said, squaring his shoulders. "First... do ye ken there's a fine if you've no' posted banns?"
"'Tis no' a church wedding," Keir said.
"The law says without the banns, 'tis a fine of fifty pounds." As Keir gave him an outraged glance, the sheriff added firmly, "No exceptions."
"What if I give you a bottle of whisky?" Keir asked.
"Fine is waived," MacTaggart said promptly. "Now, then... do the rest of you agree to stand as witnesses?"
Ethan and the Slorachs all nodded.
"I'll start, then," Keir said briskly, and took Merritt's hand. "I, Keir MacRae, do swear that I--"
"No' yet," the sheriff interrupted, now scowling. "'Tis my obligation to ask a few questions first."
"MacTaggart, so help me---" Keir began in annoyance, but Merritt squeezed his hand gently. He heaved a sigh and clamped his mouth shut.
The sheriff resumed with great dignity. "Are the both of you agreeable to be wed?"
"Aye," Keir said acidly.
"Yes," Merritt replied.”

Robin Bielman
“Good night," she called out.

He waved over his shoulder, not daring to turn around and be tempted to join her in a drink. Or another kiss. Because she might be a good swimmer, but he was in danger of drowning.”
Robin Bielman, The Wedding Crasher and the Cowboy

“There was a time when one didn't attend a wedding, unless they were invited.
In the near future, attending funerals will adopt the same policy.”

“We most commonly deceive our partners into thinking that we are not cheating on them by introducing them to our families, by sharing photos of them via social media, and/or by marrying them.”

Elizabeth Yates
“He smiled, that gay clean smile of his that I knew so well and that had so often been like a light to me. For one of those brief magic moments of time the years slipped away, and I was back in the tiny old cottage in Sussex that a friend had loaned to us for a few days. It was our wedding night and Bill was saying, "All of me to you, darling, forever."

Yes, that was it: all of each of us to the other. Forever. Whatever.”
Elizabeth Yates, The Lighted Heart

“Your pictures ensure that they have some happy memories, even if they're manufactured from photographs and not actual memories. It's really the only thing that lasts forever from any wedding."
"Well, that's true, I guess." He turned those inquisitive brown eyes my way. "Does it make me a jerk, though, that I don't really care about the ones I shoot?"
"Ha! There's the Griffin I know. What exactly do you mean?"
"Like, all I can think about when I'm working weddings with Val is how wasteful they are. The amount of time and money spent by the clients we both work for is insane. So much so that the focus is often lost on what the wedding is really about---the couple.”
Mary Hollis Huddleston, Without a Hitch

“Marriage is an important step in a man's life, but I confess I don't understand why we have to spend'so much money in celebrating the perpetuation of our race. Ceremonies are only a show of wealth, at best a gesture of good will toward our friends, and I think perhaps it all goes too far. I wonder if you agree with me”

“Showiness has become the malady of our times; haven’t wedding cards come to resemble wall posters. None seems to mind that the card and the copy don’t jell at all; maybe, it’s all prognostic, who knows?”

Tina Leung
“Love Always Stays Here

Standing on top of the hill all alone,
Feeling the breezy air blowing on my face,
Feeling your warm kiss on my lips.
My cold lips longing for your warm tender lips.

The butterfly flying by
Whispering into my ear,
You are standing right beside me,
You are standing right here with me.
Waiting to give me the warm kiss.
The warm kiss,
My lips long for.
It is the kiss my lips waiting for.

You are standing right here,
Whispering into my ear,
I love you,
I love you forever more.

The warm kiss on my lips.
The warm kiss,
My lips long for.

You stand right here,
Whispering into my ears,
Wherever you go I will go with you.
Wherever I go you will go with me.

No longer standing here alone.
No longer standing here to wait for you.
You are here with me.
I am here with you.

You are here with me.
I am here with you.
Wherever you go I will go with you.
Wherever I go you will go with me.

We will never be apart.
You are here with me.
I am here with you.
The butterfly flying on top of the hill in the breezy air whispering,
Love always stays here.
For we know love always stays here.”
Tina Leung, A Bowl of Grains

Fenna Edgewood
“You loved me for me, no matter who that was. You fought for me. You almost died for me. My heart was yours from the moment I met you. I gave it, freely, never expecting to receive yours in return. Now I ask you to be my husband, for I am desperate to be your beloved wife. With the two of us bound together as one, we will never lack for joy. We will take on any sorrow, any challenge, and face it together. I love you, Linden Chevalier. Have I said that already?”
Fenna Edgewood, Once Upon a Midwinter's Kiss

“Have you seen a fool in his foolishness, it is like heavy stormy rain on the day of the wedding.”
