Helen Beatrix Potter was an English author, illustrator, mycologist, and conservationist who is best known for her children's books, which featured animal characters such as Peter Rabbit.

Born into a wealthy household, Potter was educated by governesses and grew up isolated from other children. She had numerous pets, and through holidays in Scotland and the Lake District, developed a love of landscape, flora, and fauna, all of which she closely observed and painted. Because she was a woman, her parents discouraged intellectual development, but her study and paintings of fungi led her to be widely respected in the field of mycology.

In her thirties, Potter published the highly successful children's book The Tale of Peter Rabbit and became secretly engaged to her publisher, Norman Warne, causing a breach with her parents, who disapproved of his social status. Warne died before the wedding.

Potter eventually published 24 children's books, the most recent being The Tale of Kitty-in-Boots (2016), and having become financially independent of her parents, was able to buy a farm in the Lake District, which she extended with other purchases over time.

In her forties, she married a local solicitor, William Heelis. She became a sheep breeder and farmer while continuing to write and illustrate children's books. Potter died in 1943 and left almost all of her property to The National Trust in order to preserve the beauty of the Lake District as she had known it, protecting it from developers.

Potter's books continue to sell well throughout the world, in multiple languages. Her stories have been retold in various formats, including a ballet, films, and in animation.

4.5 "baby boy treasure " stars !!

2016 Honorable Mention

As a young boy I had the whole set of these books and almost every night from the ages of three to six I would choose one and mama or papa or auntie would read this to me until the age of four and a half or so when I would read it to them. They hold a very special place in my heart as they represent comfort, bonding and a warm feeling of contentment.

I was pleased to revisit these lovely stories with beautiful illustrations and I will simply write an impressionistic sentence or two about each one.

The Tale of Peter Rabbit (Rabbit Ears) by Beatrix Potter Oh dear Peter Rabbit- I want to squeeze you and your sisters oh so tight.

The Tale of Squirrel Nutkin by Beatrix Potter Poor silly Squirrel Nuttkin that lost half his tail.

The Tailor of Gloucester (Rabbit Ears) by Beatrix Potter Sweet little mice and a naughty repentant kitty.

The Tale of Benjamin Bunny by Beatrix Potter Benjamin you are as cute as your cousin Peter Rabbit.

The Tale of Two Bad Mice by Beatrix Potter Mice and dollies having oh so much fun.

The Tale of Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle by Beatrix Potter Hedgehogs are the most polite of housekeepers.

The Tale of the Pie and the Patty-Pan by Beatrix Potter A kitty, a doggie and a magpie make for a crazy tea party. This one is my favorite :)

The Tale of Mr. Jeremy Fisher (Rabbit Ears) by Beatrix Potter Froggy Jeremy will never go fishing again.

The Story of A Fierce Bad Rabbit by Beatrix Potter Hurrah both bunnies are safe!!

The Story of Miss Moppet by Beatrix Potter Miss Moppett you are extremely silly.

The Tale of Tom Kitten by Beatrix Potter Kittens and duckies should not wear clothes.

The Tale of Jemima Puddle-Duck by Beatrix Potter Jemima the puddle-duck is a silly neurotic and needs psychoanalysis and to stay away from sexi foxes.

The Tale of Samuel Whiskers, or The Roly-Poly Pudding by Beatrix Potter I would always avoid this one. It terrified me. Rats going to cook kittens into a pie :(

The Tale of the Flopsy Bunnies by Beatrix Potter Mr. McGregor is such a goof trying to catch the bunnies.

The Tale of Ginger and Pickles by Beatrix Potter Another favorite. This kitty and doggie gave way too much credit and lost it all.

The Tale of Mrs. Tittlemouse by Beatrix Potter A mouse with a cleaning fetish and many uninvited guests.

The Tale of Timmy Tiptoes by Beatrix Potter Squirrels have happy marriages whereas chimpmunks do not.

The Tale of Mr. Tod by Beatrix Potter Beatrix was damn angry when she wrote this one.

The Tale of Pigling Bland by Beatrix Potter Piggies going to and fro and avoiding becoming bacon or jambon.

Appley Dapply's Nursery Rhymes (World of Beatrix Potter) by Beatrix Potter Fun and silly little rhymes.

The Tale of Johnny Town-Mouse by Beatrix Potter Country folk and city folk do not always mix.

Cecily Parsley's Nursery Rhymes by Beatrix Potter Sounds very familiar :)

It was an absolute comfort and joy to revisit these lovely tales !!

I think we all love Beatrix Potter

It is amazing to have the entire collection of her stories here. I find it cathartic to read simple children's stories before bed you see. I'd even named my chihuahua after Peter Rabbit, the misfit who's misfit adventures in Mr MacGregor's gardens led to many an exciting tale. Even when he lost it! The tail, lol
Some of the stories are better than others as each animal is dressed as a self important character of 1800 England you see.
Take it for the fun that will ensue. Live a little and smell the flowers, gardens and cooking that unfolds in these tales. Enjoy! Murf

with each story, I think Beatrix’s works aren’t such a living classic, whatever lessons are in her books, it doesn’t match today’s world. some stories were very sweet, it’s just that the majority held meanings and morals I don’t lean towards. Maybe it was groundbreaking on her days, but it’s for sure not something to give a child to [unintentionally] get inspired by in present society.

The artwork though, is so creative and charming. I always love to observe old paintings, it gives me such lovely, tender feelings that I cannot put into words. there’s something about glamorous, moving art by deceased artists that makes it so unique to me.

This was extremely cute and all, not to mention free on Amazon at the time I got it, but I definitely recommend taking a break between each story, otherwise you'll get bored.
Beatrix Potter's stories are too well known for me to even mention anything more about them, but if you never heard of her and her books, then you must really check this out. The illustrations are fantastic and the stories will make you feel nostalgic about your childhood. Or even better, read it to your younger siblings or kids. :)

The likelihood of me picking this back up again to read is pretty slim due to not enough time. There's not enough time in my sometimes hectic lifestyle to read books I really want to read so trying to read something I'm only half interested in is too much of a challenge for me. I do love Peter rabbits tale though just wasn't aware of how many books were in this collection. It's a nice freebie though and the illustrations were lovely also. It was definitely one of the better free kindle books I have come across.

Beatrix Potter Illustrated Collection 22 Complete Books 660 Illustrations

Written by Beatrix Potter, Timeless Reads

Many parents and grandparents may have a hardcover edition of the Tales of Beatrix Potter on their bookshelves. If one goes searching for a vintage copy today, you might have some difficulty acquiring one. Timeless Reads has done a magnificent job of putting together most of the Potter stories as well as the classic illustrations both in color and black and white. Now you can take them with you on an electronic device, though I strongly recommend that you read them on a larger, color enabled device.

These stories and their lessons are timeless. Most of these tales were originally written at the turn of the twentieth century: in this collection, The Tale of Peter Rabbit written in 1902 is the earliest, while Cecily Parsley's Nursery Rhymes are the most recent penned in 1922. Potter's characters are familiar to children living in many cultures. Examples of the more well-known characters are Peter Rabbit, Benjamin Bunny, Miss Moppet, Jemima Puddle Duck, and the town and country mouse. There are stories featuring the three pigs and those mischievous kittens who cannot be kept in tow by their mother Tabitha.

This inexpensive kindle collection is nicely indexed with a Table of Contents that provides an easy reference for finding a particular tale. It is perfect book choice for a bedtime story, to teach a particular lesson, or to comfort a sick child. Younger children will enjoy the soft colors and pencil detail of the illustrations. The longer stories will entertain and teach older children. Adults will enjoy reminiscing with tales from their childhood that can be shared with the next generation. Highly recommended for ANY age.

I've always remembered Potter's work as fascinating stories with the most adorable paintings of animals in shirts and dresses. Now I realise how many issues they address. What's in a book really changes when you read them at a different age.

A final note on this collection of tales, is how the Tale of Mr. Tod made me sad, but the happy ending for Pigling cheered me up. There are enough ups and downs in these stories, about so many families, and things we encounter in life, as humans.

Every children, every person, should own a copy to read from when they're silly as Peter Rabbit and Tom Kitten, till they're busy as Mrs. Tittlemouse, and old as Mr. Benjamin Bouncer.

LOVE IT!

Lovely boxed collection with the beautiful and captivating original artwork.

Each of these twelve old-fashioned, child-sized, hardbound volumes feature all of the original artwork. (As does the lovely box, complete with golden carry-cord.) This is the nicest children's bedtime story collection I've seen.

My children adored these when they were very small, and I do so love the quaint language.

I remember reading the Tale of Peter Rabbit as a child but I don't remember the other tales. This was a collection of 22 stories and illustrations by Beatrix Potter.

It was enjoyable to read about Flopsy and Mopsy and Pigling Bland and Jemima Puddle-Duck and Tommy Brock and all the other characters. However, I can't imagine these books being read to children nowadays unless some of the words are updated. Too British and too 19th century.

When I was a child, I loved watching the animated versions of these stories about Peter Rabbit, Benjamin Bunny, and many other characters by Ms. Potter. When I came across this collection of short stories, I just knew I had to read them. They are just delightful! And the illustrations are so much fun! I enjoyed reading this book greatly, as recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good children's story every now and then.

I love the classic sweetness of Beatrix Potter's works. Among my favorite is Timmie-Willie. They are all mostly short stories of little country critters and their lives. I wouldn't recommend reading them too quickly, because you burn out after a few. And too, you really do just want to stroll through; as though passing the garden on sunny Spring day.

I recall my second grade teacher reading this to us from a big bind up of Beatrix Potter's stories. So reading this was like going back to that time in my life. I loved most of the stories. I definitely recommend this to those of you with young readers in your life. The pictures were beautiful. I'm so happy I downloaded this for free when I did.

Happy Reading, Ashley

I got my kindle-book copy when it was free.

Beautiful illustration, interesting characters, witty stories, nice rhythms and funny-sounding words. I love it. Ashamed to say I hadn't had an oppotunity to read these great stories to this day.

With this kindle version, you can also download a free audiobook featuring 19 titles from this collection. The web link is provided on the last page.

Miss Potter had a very strange imagination; the plots are often illogical, and the characters speak to one another in odd non-sequiturs. And as for the number of times babies are threatened with being eaten ... it's somewhat horrifying. But oddly fascinating, and the artwork is of course gorgeous.

Several shocking misprints in this Kindle ed., and The Tale of Little Pig Robinson is missing.

Beatrix Potter Collection by Beatrix Potter.

Yeah I know it’s a kids series. They’re so comforting though so I’ve reread them. I used to be obsessed with the tv series and I love the drawings that come with the book. Miss Tiggy-Winkle is my fave ever.

I got this book due to the illustrations. I think they are wonderful and so beautifully done. I occasionally like to take a look at this book and see how intricate the drawings where done. So different from today's.

I just recently read another collection of Beatrix Potter stories and then decided to read this one as well. The first was very good, but this one had accompanying illustrations. What a difference the illustrations made. They added so much to the delightful stories. So glad I read both.
