Marsh Lane (and Pendeford Lane) used to link Stafford Road at the Three Tuns junction with Lane Green west of Pendeford Bridge on the Shropshire Union Canal. Total urbanisation of both sides of the Staffordshire and Worcester Canal in the 1960s and 1970s, and later, resulted in the Fordhouses and Pendeford housing estates, and the eventual closing of Marsh Lane Bridge (S & W Canal) to road traffic. Pendeford Lane west of the bridge was downgraded to a bridleway for nearly half a mile. Can a local historian let us know a date when the bridge was closed?
Past the bridge, the route crosses The Droveway and continues, still as a bridleway, eventually becoming Pendeford Lane again by the football pitches, as far as Wobaston Road, which in turn carries on westwards along the original Pendeford Lane course to cross the Shropshire Union Canal over a modern Pendeford Bridge.
