Caernarfon town walls
Caernarfon Castle
King Edward I ordered the start of building work in 1283 as the castle evolved from an earlier motte-and-bailey structure on the site to a fortified town incorporating the town walls by 1285, though work was abruptly halted in 1294 when it was taken in a rebellion led by Madog ap Llywelyn. The English re-took Caernarfon in 1295 and set about rebuilding the town walls and completing the castle in a number of phases until 1330. It is grade I listed, a scheduled ancient monument and UNESCO World Heritage Site in the care of Cadw Link
