Site of Tiviot Dale Station
Site of Tiviot Dale Station
This is the site of Tiviot Dale Station. It was opened on 1st December 1865 by the Stockport Timperley & Altrincham Junction Railway and closed 2nd January 1967. It was largely demolished in 1968 and the site is now heavily overgrown. Tiviot Dale tunnel under Dodge Hill is extant although securely grilled, internally shored up and partially backfilled.

The line remained open into the 1980s carrying mainly freight trains from the Yorkshire coalfields to Fiddlers Ferry Power Station. Construction work on the M63 (now M60) motorway damaged the tunnel and the line was never reopened, the last piece of track being lifted in 1986.
