Our Lady of the Assumption ChurchTQ3777 : Our Lady of the Assumption ChurchThe church in Deptford's High Street was built in 1845 to the design of Canon Richard North, a mission priest and amateur architect, who was also responsible for later extensions in 1859. Pevsner, who surveyed the London suburbs in 1952, dismissed it as a "poor building of yellow brick with skinny lancet front", and Bridget Cherry, in her 1983 revision of Pevsner's guide, allowed that damning judgement to stand unaltered.
