This lochan is steadily diminishing in size as vegetation encroaches on it, leaving only this small area of open water. The ridge in the distance is Orval.

Northern Marginal Zone
A view across the NMZ. On the opposite side of the valley is an outcrop of sandstones/brecchias. The fact that these sandstones were most likely deposited in water suggests a lake in the caldera at some point.

The View from Cnapan Breaca
It looks quite a long way down, but the rocky hump in the middle distance is only a few metres lower than Cnapan Breaca. I can, however, vouch for it being a long haul up! In the distance is the mainland, with showers developing over Glenelg.
