Rumor has it that the original trio of God of War games is soon to be packaged as a remastered collection on the PlayStation 5. The series’ latest entry was released in the form of God of War Ragnarok in November 2022.
News about a remaster of the original God of War trilogy comes via the XboxEra Podcast. In it, Nick Baker talked about how he’d been hearing rumblings about the project and stated that the trilogy “might be happening.”
“I told a friend of mine who also loves the OG God of War trilogy that this might be happening, then they got very excited. And I’ve heard that we might be getting the original God of War trilogy remastered on PlayStation,” said Baker.
It’s not clear at the moment whether this would be a straight-up port or a complete remake. Also, there’s no word on a release timeline as well. One thing Baker did sound certain about is that God of War Ascension will not be included in this trilogy.
The original God of War was released in 2005 for the PS2 and is constantly cited as one of the greatest video games ever made. Two years later, it got its sequel in the form of God of War II, which too was made available for the PS2.
God of War III completed the trilogy in 2010 when it was released for the PS3 and went on to win immense acclaim for its offerings. 2025 will mark the twentieth year of the series’ existence.
As is evident, this news about a remaster of the original God of War is to be taken with a grain of salt. We’ll have more on it if something concrete emerges.
