In 2015, Marvel Comics began releasing their Hip-Hop Variant Covers. Now in its second year, Marvel’s Hip-Hop Variants have merged expression and art inspired by some of the most iconic hip-hop and rap albums of all time. Produced by some of the biggest names in the comic book industry, the release of the variant covers was covered by the international mass-media.
For New York Comic Con, Marvel is excited to announce a one-of-a-kind event: Marvel: The Hip-Hop Covers – Cover Artist Signing!
Hip-Hop Variants
The Hip-Hop Variants series bring together two influential art forms to create a unique line of variant covers. Each cover reimagines a classic hip-hop album cover using characters from the Marvel Universe. Superheroes Iron Man, the Avengers, Spider-Man, the X-Men, Ms. Marvel and more are all represented on the covers, inspired by albums from hip-hop greats including The Roots, Jay-Z, Lauryn Hill, 50 Cent, and Dr. Dre.
“The hip-hop variant covers is Marvel’s humble holler back to an art form that influences so many of us,” says Marvel Editor in Chief, Axel Alonso. “This massive signing offers you a chance to meet the artists themselves.”
Marvel will present sixteen of their Hip-Hop Variants cover artists for a signing at the Marvel Booth (booth #1354) on Saturday, October 8 at 12PM ET. These artists created some of the Hip-Hop Variants which in turn honor the biggest hip-hop albums of all time. An exclusive Marvel: The Hip-Hop Covers Poster spotlighting some of these iconic covers will be available at the Marvel booth.
Artists at the signing will include Tim Bradstreet, Mark Brooks, Natacha Bustos, Cliff Chiang, Shawn Crystal, Juan Doe, Adi Granov, Keron Grant, Sanford Greene, Brittany Holloway-Brown, Adam Hughes, Alex Maleev, Ricardo Lopez Ortiz, Khary Randolph, Damion Scott, and Brian Stelfreeze.
