BBC Breakfast: Charlie Stayt previews upcoming guide dogs segment

BBC Breakfast's Charlie Stayt experienced an amusing on-air slip-up during Friday's broadcast. While discussing the pressing need for more guide dog puppy raisers with viewers, a pre-recorded clip featuring Phil Mackie at a guide dog charity was shown.

After it concluded, Charlie teased an upcoming deeper discussion on the issue later in the program. His co-host Naga Manchetty quipped: "I mean, you've got beautiful puppies doing a good thing, can't go wrong!"

To which Charlie responded: "It's worth saying a little later on this morning, at 8:40, we'll be talking to guide dogs themselves-". Realising his mistake, he swiftly amended his comment to clarify that they would be speaking to representatives from the guide dog organisation, not the animals themselves.

Naga quickly made light of his error by jesting: "I was going to say good luck if you're going to have a conversation with a guide dog!"

Taking the faux pas in stride, Charlie chuckled and proposed: "Why not try it? ! Maybe we should try it! Look, a lot of people talk to their dogs, they get enormous satisfaction from it. Nothing wrong with that, I'm not going to knock that."

He added, only for his colleague to highlight one minor problemthe dogs wouldn't be able to talk back. She retorted, "No, I don't think it would be the best interview to watch."

Charlie then amusedly insisted: "I think it would!". Meanwhile Naga erupted into laughter over his initial mix-up.

The BBC host, teased an upcoming segment by mentioning that a seven-month-old puppy named Herbie would be visiting the studio as part of his volunteer training.

He remarked on the incredible work done by the volunteers, promising to delve deeper into the topic later in the programme, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Naga Munchetty playfully suggested: "You know we have klaxon's, we should have a cuteness alert as well, shouldn't we?"

However, Naga herself stumbled during the week when she interviewed Scott Nelson, an eyewitness to the New Orleans incident.

On Thursday's broadcast, she introduced him, saying: "Scott, hello to you. I know you are not in New Orleans now but you were there. Can you just tell me what you knew as the incident was happening because you was inside a nightclub."

Scott corrected her, stating: "Good Morning, I actually am still in New Orleans. The scene is directly behind me. I was in a nightclub probably 30 metres or so from the scene where the truck crashed and immediately we saw people fleeing the scene and law enforcements running towards it."

Upon realising her error, Naga quickly apologised, acknowledging: "It's very clear that you are still shaken and you are still in the city of New Orleans now, my apologies."

BBC Breakfast continues weekdays on BBC One from 6am.
