Goalkeeper Waterreus leaves Rangers
GLASGOW, June 7 - Rangers goalkeeper Ronald Waterreus has left the Scottish Premier League after failing to agree terms on a new contract.
Waterreus quit after being offered a one-year extension. He was widely reported in local media as wanting a two-year deal.
"The club can confirm that the Dutchman decided not to accept a one-year extension on exactly the same contract as last season," Rangers said on their website on Wednesday.
Waterreus, 35, signed for Rangers in January 2005 from Manchester City to cover for injured German Stefan Klos but his impressive form helped install him as first-choice keeper.
He made 64 appearances in all competitions for Rangers, who finished third in the league last season.
Klos is out of action for several months following a biking accident on holiday in Switzerland when he damaged his shoulder and the Glasgow club have been linked with French keeper Lionel Letizi of Paris St Germain.
