Cat etiquette solves the Over-Under debate for toilet paper

Last edited Sat Mar 4, 2023, 05:50 PM - Edit history (1)

Over-under was an old topic in Lounge years ago, and the Owned-by-cats contingent here framed the consensus as being Under because cats are fascinated to paw at the Over and completely unroll it. The latest solution sides with the cats.

ON EDIT: Didn't learn back then & am reminded that it's not a humorous topic.

Over or under? Original patent confirms the 'correct' way to hang the toilet roll is OVER - as experts warn hanging paper the other way round can increase your risk of coming into contact with bacteria
* A survey found that 42 per cent of people are annoyed by 'wrong way' toilet roll

* The original patent shows that the paper should hang over the top of the roll

* A 2011 study also found 19 types of bacteria in the bathroom and around the roll

* Experts say having it under increases the chance of you touching a surface

It becomes a matter of how much you want to spend on toilet paper. If you cat leaves the roll alone, then whatever floats your boat.
But if you have a cat that daily strips the roll, you're probably gonna go under roll.
I've had a cat that did that, so I went under while we had that cat.
Current cat has no interest, so over the top again.

If the TP is kept completely inside it, the cat can’t unravel it.
