Call the Midwife bosses have announced that they are nearing "the end slate", indicating that filming for Season 14 is almost complete. In the finale of Season 13, Trixie (played by Helen George) seemed to be exiting the show after her husband Matthew revealed his plans to move to New York to rebuild his business.
However, she chose to follow him, but will be returning for the upcoming Christmas special. The show shared a behind-the-scenes photo on their official Instagram page of Zephryn Taitte (Cyril), captioning it: "Behind the scenes on Call the Midwife Series 14: the End Slate. We're getting veeeeeeery close to the end of filming for Series 14! Our team is looking forward to taking a well earned break very soon!
"Not everybody of course," they added. "For our editing, sound and production teams, there is much more work still to be done once the cameras stop rolling, and even the actors will still be called in to add some extra sound and dialogue to the finished product.

"Yet the end is approaching...Our actors are no strangers to end slates and emotional moods... and let's just say this last episode has been very full of emotional end slates.." reports the Express.
They implored their supporters: "By the way, have you voted for Call the Midwife in the TV Choice Awards yet? If not, then PLEASE do! Final voting is closing very soon! BEST FAMILY DRAMA: Call the Midwife."
This year, for the first time ever, BBC fans are set for a double helping of Call the Midwife Christmas joy, with two hour-long episodes scheduled for the festive period instead of the traditional single 90-minute special, complete with a cliffhanger designed to leave everyone talking.
The special episodes come after season thirteen's nail-biting finale that left viewers on tenterhooks over whether Matthew Aylward, portrayed by Olly Rix, and Trixie, brought to life by Helen George, can save their marriage.
As Helen George teases Trixie's return to Poplar, the Christmas specials of 2024 may unravel the mystery for Call the Midwife aficionados itching to know what's next for the troubled couple.
In the festive special, Nonnatus House's midwives carry on with their baby-delivering duties as a funfair brings cheer to Poplar. But as the locals prepare for a carol concert, news of an escaped prisoner stirs up fear after a string of break-ins.
The period drama is set to make its official return with this brand new Christmas special, while the fourteenth season is slated for release in 2025.
