Scope

This 28-page handbook is written in clear language and outlines the foundations of health and safety. This handbook provides individuals with a basic understanding of occupational health and safety, including how workplaces can identify, assess, and control hazards in the workplace. Implementing the required hazard control measures to protect all workers can reduce incidents while increasing productivity and morale.

The information provided in this handbook is not intended to replace the requirements outlined in occupational health and safety legislation. Always check and follow the applicable jurisdiction’s regulatory requirements.

Target Audience

This handbook is for employers, managers, supervisors, workers, human resources professionals, health and safety committee members and representatives, union representatives, and anyone else with an interest in occupational health and safety.

Each publication produced by CCOHS undergoes several stages of review. As part of this review, representatives from government, employers, and labour are requested to comment on draft copies of CCOHS documents for technical accuracy and readability.
